Bank of Hawaii reopens Kohala branch

Bank of Hawaii reopened its Kohala branch on the Big Island Tuesday, after a year of repairs and structural renovations.

The historic branch had been closed after the earthquake in October 2006. In the interim, the bank used a large mobile trailer to meet service needs for the community.

The original building was built in 1900 and bought by the Bank of Hawaii in 1922.

The renovated building includes a photovoltaic system from Hoku Scientific, making the building energy self-sufficient.
